What is Social Brand Equity?  First let’s look at the definition of Brand Equity from Wikipedia.com: “Brand equity refers to the marketing effects or outcomes that accrue to a product with its brand name compared with those that would accrue if the same product did not have the brand name [1][2][3][4]. And, at the root of these marketing effects is consumers’ knowledge. In other words, consumers’ knowledge about a brand makes manufacturers/advertisers respond differently or adopt appropriately adept measures for the marketing of the brand [5][6]. The study of brand equity is increasingly popular as some marketing researchers have concluded that brands are one of the most valuable assets that a company has[7].”

That last sentence is very important and I highlighted it for a reason.  You see, recognition of  a brand is extremely important.  The brand might be you as an individual or your company or product.  Regardless, the more recognizable you are, the more people will get to know, like and trust you.  That’s the KLT factor.

When people KLT you, they will buy from you.  That’s one of the main reasons to brand yourself.

Now, what is Social Brand Equity?

That is your recognizable brand on the social media landscape.  There are thousands of social networking sites out there and to ensure your presence is noticed, you have to be out there.  You have to have a presence where your potential customers or clients are.  Branding yourself or company on the social media landscape is crucial to making money online.

If you are known as IMVideos on twitter, Bob Jones on Facebook, CoolVideos on YouTube, and AwesomeVideos on 12Seconds.TV, how is anyone going to be able to correlate that they are talking to the same person or company?
They’re not!  And therin lies the problem… no equity.

If you are known as “dogfoody” on all the top social sites, then someone who saw your video on YouTube, will recognize you on Twitter, and follow your bookmarks on StumbleUpon, and watch your live broadcasts on uStream.  They know it’s YOU, and begin to “know you”, like you, and trust you.  Then, when they want to know what food to get their dog, they go to you, or if someone asks, they send them to you.

Make sure your brand has a presence on the social media landscape now.  Do it now before someone steals your username!
